After nine hectic days and ten slamming nights of Melbourne Music Week action, Red Bull Music Academy presented two events of jaw-dropping international and local acts to officially close the MMW music celebration for 2013.

In what can only be described as the ultimate joyride, Red Bull Music Academy teamed up with MMW to reclaim three trams from afternoon commuters and present Red Bull Music Academy Tram Jam.

The trio of trams were given makeovers to become mobile islands of afro-tropical paradise and were sent to collect music lovers from three of Melbourne’s most iconic music venues – The Espy, Howler and The Corner Hotel.

Helmed by respected radio selectors Edd Fisher (PBS), Chris Gill and LA Pocock (both RRR), party-goers on the moving music festival were treated to sweet summertime rhythms for a 60 minute party around the city of Melbourne – much to the confusion and bewilderment of commuters waiting at tram stops across the city – before finally converging at The Residence for the official closing party.

RMBA staged an epic takeover of The Residence – home of MMW – to present Discolypso – a 12-hour finale with an incredible line up of international and local acts that kept the rhythm going all day and night with a concoction of tribal house, contemporary African funk and after-hours soul at the African paradise.

Topping the bill was Brian Shimkovitz, better known as the man behind the Awesome Tapes From Africa (USA) blog and record label, who left fans delighted with his zany party mix accompanied by a stellar line-up of Canada’s Invisible City Soundsystem, Tako (Amsterdam) and RBMA Australian reps Jamie Bennett, Kano Hollamby (Rome 2004) vs Ennio Styles with Elvis Aljus (percussion) and Andras Fox (London 2010).
